4 Tips for Decorating a Rustic-Inspired Office
According to Skoloff, “We find that certain businesses can pull off a more industrial or rustic look to suit the clientele and to match their ‘down-to-earth’ values. Good business models that fit this may be coffee shops or roasting houses, farm-to-table restaurants, wine shops, or any business built into a revitalized mill, factory or barn. AIn Nashville there is even an incredible bar called ‘Old Glory’ that is built into an old dry cleaning factory. Reuse such as this creates delightful spaces. ” Here are a few more tips from Skoloff to inspire you to add a little rustic to your office.
1. ANever cover up exposed raw walls, ceilings or floors such as brick, beams, or poured form concrete. Instead, strip the dirt off and let them shine. AOften there are great colors of old paint or rust that you can highlight and pull other room colors from. Stripping down beams and all structural elements in the space is key. Clear coat them with poly if needed for sealing.
2. AWith all of your exposed elements, you’ll get a lot of echoing and noise so be sure to use area rugs or carpeting under desks or seating areas. Other smart choices would be simple lined linen drapery and even felt acoustic panels for sound absorption.
3. AArtwork and furnishings can often be found secondhand or locally. This is easier furniture to source yourself so take advantage of that. We love Rejuvenation and Four Hands for great accent pieces.
4. ALighting is the crucial final step. Focus on lighting the walls and ceilings that you have exposed and use indirect lighting sources. This will make your new space glow. AThere are a lot of great industrial pendants and lamps out there for your specific task lighting.
