5 Modern Southern Artists to Add to Your Home

Love modern art with a southern twist? Today we have some inspiration from Sarah Miller, Owner of recently launchedACanvas Charleston.AIf you are in the market for art be sure to check out these 5 Modern Southern Artists to Add to Your HomeAcurated by Sarah Miller.

Artwork by Jennifer Lashbrook– From Texas
I am a sucker for mixed-media artwork. Jennifer Lashbrook makes these incredible portraits out of paint swatches – the kind you would use to choose a paint color for your house. She uses these manufactured swatches and combines them methodically to create something new. I feel like it’s very “full circle”… one thing can lead to another with the right amount of imagination.
Artwork by Dixie PurvisA- From Atlanta
There are a lot of fantastic abstract painters in the world today but I think Dixie is a living master. She works with oil on birch panel, which gives her the ability to manipulate the surface as well as the medium. Lines and balance are two critically important components of an abstract painting, which she innately understands and delivers.
Artwork by Miles Purvis – From Columbia
Miles’ work makes me feel. Sometimes it’s appreciation for culture and sometimes it’s just pure excitement or joy! She uses various mediums (paint, paper, fabric, etc) and develops these beautiful, interesting faces. It’s almost as if she allows the color and texture to relay the personality of the people she’s making.
Artwork by Kevin Earl TaylorA– From Charleston
I fell in love with Kevin Taylor’s work as a student at CofC. I saw it beaming through the window of a downtown Charleston gallery. Something about his imagery hit me hard. That was about 10 years ago… I still attribute that moment to fueling my desire to work with artists.
Artwork by Sully SullivanA(American flag tent) – From Charleston
Photography is all about capturing moments and Sully does that pretty darn well. I can’t decide what subject matter of his I like best, but his pictures tend to be honest. He waits until the right moment when the subject is in their element, and grabs it.
