5 Reasons We Love The Cedar Room

5 Reasons We Love The Cedar Room 12

In November we are doing a wonderful creative business retreat at The Cedar Room. This beautifully restored historic Charleston venue is a former Cigar Factory and is rich with African American culture, particularly for the Black Southern Belle. We are so honored to have the Cedar Room as a sponsor and for restoring this beautiful space. Read more about the 5 reasons we love the Cedar Room below and see this beautiful styled shoot as well as some beautiful event photos.

If you are looking for a wedding or meeting location, please make sure to consider The Cedar Room and we hope to see you all in November!

#1: There is So Much History! Built in 1881, the Cigar Factory served as a textile factory, a cotton mill and then a cigar factory over a period of more than 70 years. During the 1930s, the factory was the largest private employer in Charleston with 1,400 workers generating more than 400,000 cigars daily. It was one of the few civilian workplaces that provided secure employment for a full day’s wages during the Great Depression.

#2: African American Connection: On October 22, 1945, the Cigar Factory was the site of the famous 1945 American Tobacco Company Strike that lasted five months. During the strike, protestors transformed a traditional gospel song into “We Will Overcome,” which later became the defining protest song of the 1950s and 1960s civil rights movement as “We Shall Overcome.”

#3: A Beautiful Testament to Historic Restoration: Standing as a beacon of historic preservation in Charleston, the Cigar Factory is one of Charleston’s most significant buildings dating back almost two centuries. After being abandoned for many years, the Cigar Factory represents the effort to not only preserve historic downtown, but transform these spaces into functional facilities for locals and visitors alike to enjoy.

#4: Such a Beautiful Space: With its wood plank white ceilings, exposed brick walls and  gorgeous lighting, what is not to love about the Cigar Room. This venue is perfect for the Black Southern Belle Bride or Socialite to host a wedding or any event. We are hosting our finale party there so we really believe it!
