Top 5 Things about Albany, GA from Miss Black Albany

Courtney Brown is another southern girl in a pageant world representing the lovely Albany, Georgia as Miss Black Albany! This BSB doesn’t just wear the crown but also holds education close to her heart as a teacher and graduate of University of Georgia. Below she tells us a little bit more about what it’s like to live in Albany and also what being a BSB means to her.

1. I love that the Miss Black Albany USA pageant gave me the opportunity the promote awareness of my platform breast cancer awearness,and overall black excellence throughout the city and surrounding communities.

2. Albany is a city of love and support!  The community embraced and uplifted me as Miss Black Albany.

3. African American entrepreneurs in Albany are using their many gifts and talents to showcase unity through community service and other social events throughout the city. (From South Georgia Fashion week to local magazines and many African American businesses we got’em)

4. Albany is the home of Ray Charles and the Mighty Rams, Albany State University.  As an educator, it makes me proud to know that they rank 4th in the nation for producing African American educators.

5. I love that I’ve gotten to make many meaningful connections in Albany, such as meeting the Mayor, working with Phoebe Putney Breast Cancer Survivors, through my various sponsors,

1. God and family are two of the most important sources of happiness in my life.  I strive to keep God first in everything I do, and I work hard to make my family proud.

2. As a Black Southern Belle I embrace my heritage! I strive to exemplify confidence, style, and grace by breaking barriers and stereotypes. I love everything about the South! The food, vernacular, fashion, and decor. I love the simple greeting of “hey y’all!”

3. When the weather is absolutely perfect, I enjoy relaxing outside reading an inspiration novel with a tall glass of sweet tea.

4. Thanks to my queen, my mother, I can throw down in the kitchen! I can prepare some signature southern meals.  You want soul food? The real good food that make you “wanna slap your momma?” Well it can only be found in the south or in my kitchen!

5. I love being a role model through my southern charm and etiquette.  I’m a living example of what it means to persevere through difficult situations, all while managing to keep my invisible crown straight and shining bright.
