While you are stressing over details of your wedding planning, don’t forget to add some southern inspiration and style to your engagement session. With so many beautiful backdrops and landscapes in the South you should be sure include your Black Southern Belle Roots while planning your engagement photos. Today we are featuring sure fire tips from Brittany Bell of Brittany B. Events to help you plan your photos with ease and some inspiration from a recent Alabama couple she helped style.
- Choose the perfect location.
The location sets the tone for the entire shoot. Try to pick a site that has different scenery options so you can capture different looks. A beautiful antebellum home or country barn are both great locations. The Arlington Antebellum Home and Garden was the ideal place for Kimberly and Brandon’s engagement shoot.
- Incorporate an activity.
Think of your photo shoot as a date night with a photographer in tow! A romantic picnic for two, fishing off the dock, or horseback riding would look amazing captured behind the lens.
- Showcase your style.
Your attire should fit the theme of the shoot. Be sure to coordinate clothing with your fiancé, using colors in the same family. To make your photos pop, incorporate colors, textures and patterns in your attire. A few days before the shoot, lay out your outfits to make sure everything looks well together!
Kimberly chose a gorgeous floral tea dress and pumps as her main look and later changed into a cream sequin top and blush ballerina skirt to balance Brandon’s casual look.
- Use Props
Props are a great way to enhance the southern theme of your shoot. Mixing in vintage furniture adds another visual element and makes for a great photo! Kimberly and Brandon rented a gorgeous vintage love seat from CeCe Décor, a local rental company in Birmingham, Alabama.
- Add Personal touches
Mixing in items, such as heirloom pieces, adds a special touch to an engagement shoot. The southern belle may wear their grandmother’s pearls and the southern gentleman may add their great grandfather’s pocket square to their wardrobe. These are simple ways to honor your loved ones.
