Sharon Crumley, owner of Sharon Crumley Studios, LLC, creates mixed media, abstract and black art. Sometimes her art is more about the process than deep thought. Other times it is about how to be creatively consistent. Either way, she’s a BSB and Georgia peach that is beautifying the south with her artwork. Learn more about her journey as an artist whose turning messes into masterpieces every day.
1. She is a Roswell, Georgia Belle with Determination
Sharon Crumley Studios is based in Roswell. The business started in earnest after a layoff from a corporation. At the time there were few jobs, even with new training, there were very few employers offering opportunities stateside. So the art business was born!
2. Fellow Artists are Her Guidebook
With no specific business model on how to run an art business, Sharon looked for artists who looked at art as a business and took it seriously. She found a few and follows them to get an understanding of how an art business works and the strategies needed to make it successful.
One of the most important things was to get around other artists. It was suggested to join art groups, so she did. She is currently a member of Atlanta Collage Society and Alpharetta Arts Guild. Members share opportunities for art exposure, techniques, and sales. By participating other things are learned like, how to hang a show, what a juried show is and how to write an artist statement.
3. Being a Southern Belle Brought Her Opportunities
Being in the south provides plenty opportunities for observing life and interpreting through an artistic eye. From the abundance of green in the trees to sitting on a bench on Canton St. looking at the crowd after eating dinner at one of the restaurants, there is a lot to see.
4. Her Work is Throughout Georgia
Currently, she has work hanging in the corporate corridors at the retail shopping/living experience called Avalon, in Alpharetta. GA. There are also festivals galore and she has committed to the Chalktoberfest in Marietta, GA on October 8th and 9th. There is also the fall festival on the Roswell Square September 17th and 18th.
5. She Turns Messes into Creative Masterpieces
Creating art is messy sometimes so Sharon loves her trusty pair of gloves that are always within arm’s reach. There is also her faithful uniform of an old t-shirt and a pair of well-worn shorts. It is hard to be neat and work sometimes.
