HBCU Belles are no strangers to service. These Aggie Deltas proved just that during a sorority milestone. Read about these lovely ladies’ commitment to the community in today’s feature.

The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Alpha Mu Chapter at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University (Spring 96) celebrated the group’s 20th “Deltaversary” with a number of events, including a visit to Aycock Middle School in Greensboro, NC.
While this milestone anniversary is often used as an opportunity to reunite sorority members during homecoming, the group wanted to use their Deltaversary as a chance to give back and spread a positive message to A&T students and alumni.
The events kicked off with a professional photo shoot, where a portion of the shoot was used to honor the victims of police brutality, and to show their united support for social justice and reform.
The members of the line wore custom-designed T-Shirts that highlighted the names of some of the men and women killed as a result of excessive police force.
Following the photo shoot, the group visited the students at Aycock Middle School where they led two interactive workshops and 1-on-1 reading sessions.
The workshops were facilitated by two of the published authors on the line:
Holly D. Reid, author of Teach Your Child To Fish: Five Money Habits Every Child Should Master, and Deidre A Sorrell, author of The Germ: How to Talk to Children About Racism and Diversity.
Reid, CPA and Financial Coach, spoke to the students about setting financial goals, the power of compound interest, and spending their money wisely.
Sorrell, Licensed Professional Counselor and School Psychologist, facilitated a discussion with the students on diversity, racism and valuing differences. The students were tasked with generating ideas on how to help end racism in the community.
The group closed out the anniversary festivities with a homecoming welcome and appreciation tailgate party for sorority sisters and friends on Saturday.
When asked how their anniversary activities impacted A&T and the community, the sorority members said this:
“Our Anniversary marked a milestone in our personal lives but it was equally important to give back to the community that had such a significant impact in our lives during the four years we all lived and flourished into adults in the city of Greensboro. Speaking to the next generation of future Aggies allowed them to meet accomplished graduates where they could ask questions and really see what is possible when attending illustrious universities and colleges like A&T and other prominent HBCU’s

“Our 20th Year Deltaversary activites enriched NC A&T State University in so many ways! Through our community service project at Aycock Middle School, the students were exposed to HBCU Alumni leaders and were given an opportunity to see first hand what it means when we say ‘Aggies Do!’ ”
