June 19, 1865 is forever remembered as the day the abolishment of slavery was announced. The day is marked as Juneteenth or Freedom Day, the celebration of the emancipation.
June 19, 2017 marks 154 years since the ending of slavery! That’s a great reason to celebrate. If you live in or near Houston, Tx area check out these Juneteenth Celebrations for 2017.

Houston Juneteenth Emancipation Celebration 2017
Every year in the Houston/Galveston area Juneteenth is celebrated in a big way from June 10th-19th. It is called the Houston Juneteenth Emancipation Celebration or Juneteenth Fest. The events are hosted to celebrate freedom and cultural heritage. This week holds several events in the Houston/Galveston area and surrounding cities.

The Mildred Johnson Miss Juneteenth Pageant- Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.
On Saturday, June 10th come celebrate Juneteenth with the poise and elegance of contestants ages 3-19 years old. The Mildred Johnson Miss Juneteenth Pageant will take place at Trinity UMC from 2-4 pm. Don’t miss it!
Annual Juneteenth Parade-Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.Â
Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Annual Acres Homes Juneteenth Parade will be hosted by the mayor on June 17th. It begins at the Acres Homes Multi-Service Center at 10:00 am. The parade has been a big success in previous years. Go out and support the participants and enjoy the show!
H-Town Get Down–Â Jun 17, 2017 8:30 p.m.
Miller Outdoor Theatre presents the H-Town Get Down on Jun 17th. This hip hop festival is one of the biggest celebrations going on in Houston, TX this year. The performances will be rap, spoken word, and dance. Get your FREE tickets while they last!
Annual Juneteenth Scholarship Gala–Â Saturday, June 17, 2017Â 6:00 p.m.
This year’s 3rd Annual Juneteenth Scholarship Gala will be hosted by the Broken Chains Awareness Development Group. Buy tickets today to support the youth in reaching their potential. The event will honor the 2017 Juneteenth Scholarship recipients and raise money for future recipients.
Juneteenth Celebration Art Exhibit @Â Missouri City Community Center
On June 17th join the Missouri City Community Center in celebrating Juneteenth through art. The exhibit will present different types of unique pieces from artists and student artists. These popular pieces have been showcased in other exhibits and were brought together to make the Juneteenth Celebration Art Exhibit. The exhibit speaks on African American culture and Juneteenth history.
