)Figure Out The Focal Point: Decide what you want your eyes to be drawn to as you enter the room and create your space plan around that element. In this project, we wanted the focal point to be the natural light that filters into the room from the windows, so we placed the sofa on the window wall and installed gorgeous, custom floor-to-ceiling drapery.
)Letas Give Them Something To Talk About: Every Southern home has to be ready for entertaining at a momentas notice. Because real estate is sparse in small spaces, you have to be smart about the size and placement of the pieces your bring into the room. In this project, we gave our client plenty of comfortable seating set in a layout that encourages conversation. We also chose small, easily movable coffee tables so that she could move them closer to guests who might need a place to set down their glass of wine or cup of coffee.
)Make Every Inch Count: Our clientas high rise unit has an open concept floor plan, so the dining room could easily be seen from the kitchen and living room. We gave her stylish, usable space by adding a banquette and statement lighting to this space. Now her guests have a comfortable place to sit and enjoy drinks or dinner.
)Color Is Your Friend: Small spaces are much more interesting and impactful when you skillfully use color to bring energy and life to your space. How did we decide on the color scheme for this project? We took our color cues from our clientas extensive art collection.
)Through At Least One Transformer In The Mix: In any small space, youall never have the square footage to fulfill all of your needs. In this project, our client, who loves to entertain, really wanted a bar area but we didnat have the space to add a full bar to the mix. However, the credenza that her living room TV sits on was empty until we came up with the idea to paint it, add new hardware and convert it to a bar storage piece. Now, when sheas entertaining guests she simply opens the credenza doors to pull out her wine glasses, bottle of wine and wine opener!
