We live and breath for a traditional engagement session and this one sets the bar high. Between the beautiful Spanish moss and coral backdrops, this Savannah engagement is everything a southern bride dreams about. Chewanda and Brandon are such a cute couple and we are so excited to feature their love story. This Howard University belle met her dream man in the Washington, DC area and she made sure to take it back home to her Georgia roots for a southern inspired engagement shoot. How did you meet?
Well, when i was in college between 2002-2006 my best friend was dating her now husband and she would tell me that her boyfriend (now husband) had a friend that would be perfect for me. My friend’s husband is definitely not my type so i assumed as the old saying goes, “birds of a feather flock together” so I was totally not interested in any of his friends. So we never met. Fast forward to 2011, i was stationed at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and my best friend invited me to a birthday party for her husband. The next day my friend called me and was like, ” brandon was talking about the entire night, give him a call”. She gave me his number and the rest is history.
How long have you dated?
4 years
How did he propose?
It was new years eve/day and we started the day early by meeting one of my friends and her friend at a chinese restaurant for dinner. We all then walked to the Eiffel tower for the big count down. We were on our way back to the room from participating in the count down at the Eiffel Tower in Paris and we were arguing. Brandon got separated from the group and we couldn’t find him and once we did find him, he couldn’t let it go. We get back to the room and at that point I was exhausted Paris is a big city and the Eiffel tower was literally on the other side of town in reference to our hotel. Once in the room he pulls out this white box and give this long speech on relationships getting married and then he popped the question.
When did you know he was the one?
Our first date, which was literally something out of the movie Hitched. We went out to dinner at a seafood restaurant called “Obie Rickies”, which is now closed( I think), in Baltimore and it was my birthday. I was sitting there eating some crabs then my chest gets itchy, and my throat and my cheeks and my face starts to break out. The night ends with me popping about 3 benadryls and falling asleep in the car.
What is the cutest thing he has done for you without you asking?
Tells me he loves me.
What is something you love about him that has completely changed your life?
He is very caring and loving person who is very sentimental
What part of wedding planning is making you crazy?
Everything
What part of wedding planning can you not live without?
I am honestly enjoying the entire process.
What was your first thought the day after your engagement?
Who should i tell and how do i tell them. We were in Paris so it hard to communicate with the family back home.
What did you love about taking engagement pictures?
Well we had an excellent photographer. It rained during our session, literally, and you can’t event tell. What I loved the most about the pictures is that my hair held up. I am a “naturalista” so I don’t know how she (photographer) did it, but as Tim Gunn would say, “she made it work”.
Who did you tell first about your engagement?
Our parents
Are you used to the ring yet?
Yes, I wear it everyday and feel naked without it.
How many times do you accidentally say girlfriend instead of fiance in a day?
Everyday, fiancé is such a weird word. I never really though about the term fiancé until I had to use it.
