A Day in the Life of a Kid in the Lowcountry at Nexton

A Day in the Life of a Kid in the Lowcountry at Nexton

Choosing where to live is one of the most important decisions we make in our lives. When we have children, that decision becomes even more vital. Now that Fred and I are parents, discussions about education, safety, and convenience are common discussions at our house. We love our community, but we are always exploring. On Black Southern Belle, I’m constantly sharing my love for the South, and I’ve had several people reach asking for advice on where to live over the years.

We discovered Nexton, a family-friendly community right in my hometown of Summerville, South Carolina. If you know me, you know my love for the Lowcountry runs deep, so a community in the heart of the Lowcountry is a plus. Nexton is a community that offers four distinct villages  with a school, restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, and office spaces. They have a variety of  modern homes for sale if you are looking for a family-friendly community that is great for kids and multigenerational families.

As busy parents with active children, we wanted to experience a day in the life at Nexton through our children to see how they would enjoy the area and experiences offered in this Lowcountry community. We spent some time in Midtown enjoying the sights and sounds near the lake.

We had the opportunity to tour some of the homes and spend a little time enjoying the modern amenities, including fully updated kitchens, fireplaces, and outdoor spaces. Lowcountry is manifested through the architectural details – large covered front porches and plenty of windows while being energy efficient with contemporary floor plans. The homes are surrounded by nature with scenic views of the lake and pathways, perfect for children to work off extra energy and enjoy the healthy, fresh air.

Exploring the shops, we discovered there are plenty of kid-friendly destinations to discover Tweedle Beedle, Simple to Sublime, and Art on the Square. Local restaurants include a food truck Page’s Okra Grill (okra is a favorite of our families), Hall’s Chohouse, Tropical Smoothie + Ice Cream Shop, and Vicious Biscuit for snacks, check out some of our fun here.

When it becomes safer to enjoy indoor activities, Bold Fitness offers kids camps, gymnastics, and karate classes, while the Bike Shoppe offers kids’ bikes. Our children are very active, so having various activity options is excellent for families with kids of all ages.

If you are looking for a home in a community that is kid-friendly, great for multigenerational and non-conventional families, Nexton is a place to consider. And of course its destination in the Lowcountry is a major bonus.
