Black Heritage Homes: Iconic Home Showhouse Highlights Black Interior Designers

Designing your “Iconic Home” or “Dream Home” is a picture we often think about weekly. We get into deep thought about the entryway or are able to visualize the color of the walls against our Southern collectables that we already have stored away. Most of the time we can see our finished home before it is even completed. But now our vision has become more visual than ever before and our, African American, features that we want to include in our home have been placed on display for many to see. The Iconic Home that we are thrilled to share today was created specifically by Black Interior Designers and will share features in which we will all enjoy to see and even recreate.

The Iconic Home, which name pays homage to the commonality of what we all dream about,  is the ultimate Black Design experience. Created as a showhouse with a partnership between the Architectural Digest and the Black Interior Designers Network, this home is one of many firsts. The Iconic Home provides a first-of-its-kind digital experience. With the ability to be toured digitally on AD.com and with completed audio tours from the black designers and architecture firms, this Iconic Home has design worthy to share and is serving as inspiration for black self-decorates like ourselves.

The creation direction of this home stems from 19 designers and 16 firms ranging from Los Angeles to New York. These designers and firms are a part of the non-profit organization Black Interior Designers Network,  BIDN, or the Architectural Digest. BIDN strives towards building equitable interior designs to showcase and prioritize diversity and inclusion,  while Architectural Digest provides the exclusive access to some of the world’s most beautiful homes and also the charming people who occupy them.

Each decor design and architectural creation merged together well and created a home that we can picture ourselves in. With many combinations of black culture, aesthetic, and personal values, The Iconic Home has become a decor sensation and a visualization of what decor can be in our community. The Iconic Home connects consumers and homeowners with the vast talent of the Black design community and is a decor style we should celebrate more often.
