Often as #Black Southern Belle, we are expected to get married as soon as we finish school. And in modern times, you are supposed to finish school, get a great job and find a husband, all while wearing heels and saving the world. That is not realistic. As a recently married woman and Black #Southern Belle there is no reason to rush.

While all of your girlfriends moan and grumble about finding a man, go out there and experience the world. I am sure the perfect man will fall right in your lap. Here are some great things to do before you get hitched:
Live abroad! As much as I love the south, getting immersed in another culture is an invaluable experience and will only make you stronger when you are ready to get married. If you can’t go to another country, try moving to a new city or even a new part of town as a first step.
Change careers. We all discuss it. We are tired of the boring old 9 to 5 and want a change a pace and pursue our dream. So do it! You are single and you can be selfish! Buy that website, find a co founder and get started.
Join a Board of a Non Profit: You may not always have so much free time for your own personal interests when you get married and have a family. So now is the perfect time to indulge yourself in things you care about, the arts, sports or music. Anything that gets you up besides a paycheck is good for the soul.
Do a Southern Food Tour: This type of trip is great to do with your girlfriends. Make a list of cities and top restaurants and go to town. You can do this with a man but there is nothing like good food and gossiping with your girls. I swear it makes the food taste better.
Go on a shopping spree! I am not saying buy out Chanel but splurge a little bit. You deserve it. When you get married you will be paying for a #wedding, paying for a house and then paying for kids. So make good use of that disposable income and buy that Kate Spade and that Lilly Pulitzer your heart has been longing for 🙂
