Garden to Tablescape: How to Make Garden Bouquets!
Build Your Bouquet–Step by Step Instructions
Choose your vessel
Grab your favorite vessel to build your garden bouquet! Vintage vases and old mason jars will add character to your natural creations. Before picking and arranging your flowers, prepare your vase by adding ice cold water, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a pinch of sugar. This mixture is an all-natural preservative that will help prolong the life of your flowers.
Pick a color scheme
During late spring my garden is filled with flowers from bolting cool-weather vegetables like cilantro and mustard greens. These beautiful flowers have a tantalizing aroma and are a surprising, unique addition to my bouquets. When keeping in mind the range of colors you want to display, it will make the flower picking process a breeze!
The flowers featured in my garden bouquet are dianthus, cinnamon basil, petunias, echinacea, cilantro flowers, and bachelor buttons. These flowers are a true testament to allowing your senses to guide you while picking and arranging your flowers.
P.S. Cilantro flowers are great substitutes for baby’s breath flowers, which are used as fillers in bouquets.
Use sterilized shears to trim the flowers and herbs you want to showcase in your bouquet
Herbs are a delightful surprise! Not only do they smell and look beautiful, but they last a long time (2 weeks or more) when submerged in fresh water. Cinnamon basil and holy basil are my favorite varieties of herbs to use because they never disappoint in fragrance and blossom with deep purple flowers!
Arrange your flowers
Here is your moment to arrange as you please! Fill in space with herbs and leaves from your vegetable garden to really help your flowers stand out! From there, add your largest, most colorful or unique flowers in the middle of your arrangement, with the support of your filler flowers and herbs.
Adorn your living space
Showcase your bouquet in your favorite spaces throughout your home! Think of your garden bouquets as reminders of the unexpected treasures nature helps create.Â
