Long hallways can be awkward to decorate. Before dropping some tips, let’s consider the “universal design” principle. “Universal Design” works to serve everyone in the home. If you have small toddlers, aging parents, teenagers who are in sports, etc., this design principle will encourage you to fold in elements of design that are both functional and beautiful. Once you’ve taken stock of who is in your home and their use of the space— you can then think about elements of decor that would serve the space and members of your home best.
Caress the Walls with Color
Think about the three P’s—Paint, plants, and patterns. Consider a glossy paint color that will reflect the natural light of the windows, or maybe even a great patterned wallpaper that makes a bold statement. Adding plants to any area of your home is great for your mental and physical health; consider letting some of the outside in with hanging terrariums, a tall snake plant, or even a small fiddle leaf fig tree. A plant will also add a pop of color, and you can put it in any type of fun vase/planter you find!
Get Artsy
Consider adding a family photo gallery wall or hanging art from local artists you find at the Farmer’s Market, a local gallery, or even a thrift shop. Ceiling art is a really cool idea, too, if you don’t want to go the traditional route. Also, consider hanging antiques or trinkets from your world travels. These memory-filled items will give your space personality and make your house a home.
