If you are like us getting ready for New Year’s Eve, you must have a few items in order to start 2016. While everyone else is focused on champagne and fireworks, we here in the South know that food is always a requirement. And for NYE there are a couple of die hard traditions must happen to bring in some good luck and cheer for the 2016. Not to mention your southern mother will likely be calling to make sure you make these dishes or pick them up at her house. Momma always knows best especially in the South.
Collard Greens
These greens are know for bringing you money in the New Year. Whether you want to buy a new home, pay down student loans or get a new a Draper James tote bag, make sure to get a healthy serving of greens on New Year’s Day.
Black Eyed Peas
Still in search of few more dollars. Make sure to add Black Eyed peas which are a symbol of prosperity for the New Year as well. Â You make them as healthy or unhealthy as you like and here at BSB the more bacon the better.
Ham
The round ham means moving forward for the New Year. Get a fresh start and a little ham to your New Year meal. You can never go wrong with a country ham or honey baked if you have a sweet tooth.
Hoppin John
An easy way to get a little bit of everything is to make a southern staple Hoppin John. It has your greens, ham and beans and a little more carbs just to get you started for the New year.
Many of you may be off this weekend and have time to prepare the dishes. We also know many of you are hard at work and don’t have time but still want to start 2016 on a good foot. Check out your local caterer as an option, one of our favorites here in Charleston is  Hamby Catering (Sweet Potato Biscuits = Heaven). and they have a special holiday menu that will be sure to wow any of your NYE guests.
Happy New Year from Black Southern Belle!
