Every Saturday my husband I make a point to go out to eat. Today we went somewhere that is very special to us. A place that reminds us of our wedding weekend, O-Ku . This restaurant was where we held our Welcome to Charleston Pre Wedding Party. It is one of the first places where combined all of our mutual friends and family in one location and we had so much fun. As a self professed southern music snob, O-Ku played everything we love and our guest loved it.
On top of being a great place for a night on the town, they recently launched a lunch menu and I love it! I am super picky about Asian food and make it all the time at home. O-Ku did not make me miss my own personal recipes at all.
Thanks to O-Ku for hosting me and my husband. We look forward to coming back soon. In the mean time, here are some of my highlights from my trip:
Drinks
These are top notch. Some of the best I have had. They were the perfect mixture of strong and sweet. My husband had the Fig’Get About It and I had the Jasmanian Devil. Â My drink was a fun twist on a Mojito, while my husband’s was the magic of some southern brewing. And I personally love anything with fig in it being the southern girl that I am. Definitely will be back for Saturday drinks some time soon!
Tuna Tartare
If there is Tuna Tartare on the menu I will order it and O-Ku is a great place to get some. They had the best wonton chips to hold your tartare I have had in a long time. The tuna was super fresh and covered with a beautiful avocado arrangement and a quail egg. If you go for lunch please be sure to add it your course selection. You won’t be disappointed.
Bento Box
I am a sucker for multiple options in a meal and the bento box is great for that. With the box, you get a great portion of salad, rice noodles, a meat of your choice and sushi rolls. I tried the Beef Yakiniku and my husband had the Chicken Teriyaki. The food was great and pricing was even better. A quality meal for $10 is no small feat in downtown Charleston and O-Ku delivered. The beef was tender and well seasoned and the teriyaki was just as  great. The vegetables were very fresh and flavored well. Definitely going back just to eat the bok choy from my husband’s plate 🙂
Customer Service
Although O-Ku specializes in Asian Cuisine, their customer service has every bit of Southern Hospitality you expect from a southern restaurant. When you arrive you are greeted by the owner. Our server was as attentive as possible and also super fun. He was from Connecticut so my New England raised husband was happy to find a fellow Patriots fan. He was also happy to explain all of the time and effort put into the drinks at O-Ku which is definitely a plus and made us have a greater appreciation of how good the drinks were.
Ambiance
With beautiful espresso wood and high ceilings, O-Ku is a design lovers dream. From the beautiful art near the sushi bar to the southern styled bar. I loved everything about O-Ku’s ambiance. There is something special about mixing modern and rustic styles and O-Ku does this well. A great place to bring your girlfriends or to bring your date.
