Black Heritage Books: GLORY: Magical Visions of Black Beauty.

These past few months have allowed us to catch up on our reading and more indoor activities. From historical texts to classical motivational books, we have been able to read through various contexts and gain a deeper appreciation for some down time. However, one text that we should all add to our list of must reads for this year is GLORY: Magical Visions of Black Beauty. 

Kaharan and Regis Bethencourt understand exactly how an image can serve its purpose and decided to let pictures speak for themselves in the photobook entitled GLORY: Magical Visions of Black Beauty. In this photo book which is set to release on October 20th, 2020, husband and wife Kaharan and Regis Bethencourt demonstrate the conventional standards of African American children through photography and meaningful essays. 

GLORY features stunning and breathtaking images of natural hair and eloquent and distinctive clothing while telling a complete story of our children. The photo book puts African American beauty at the forefront of today’s conversation. With over 100 electrifying photographs and a collection of dynamic essays about the children, Glory: Magical Visions of Black Beauty is embracing and spreading information African American culture while celebrating the heritage and history of the African American community. This simplistic yet powerful text deserves to be placed on any Black Southern Belle reading nook or coffee table. 

GLORY: Magical Visions of Black Beauty, published by St. Martin’s Publishing Group, is 256 pages of glorification of many African American children and their stories of living life. Featuring Sarah Amaoko, Layla Lerus, Liam Evan Pyram, and many more, GLORY is allowing us into the lives of young individuals and giving adults a way to interact with their own beautiful creations. With a short introduction by Amanda Seales and loaded with photos shot all over the world, the book allows you to dive into the African American experience and is expected to keep you intrigued and engaged during your entire read.

WIthout being released to the public for purchase yet, the book has still received a great number of applauding reviews.
