Black Southern Belle Travel: Romantic Getaway in Charlotte, NC

Black Southern Belle Travel: Romantic Getaway in Charlotte, NC

One great thing about traveling is spending time with the one you love.  You have probably heard of Charlotte as a great hub for business and a great place to visit for CIAA events but it is  great city for a unique romantic getaway.

Charlotte holds a special place in my heart, I lived there during middle school, met my maid of honor there and hosted the first Black Southern Belle event in the city.

So of course, I had to show it off to my audience. Charlotte is the perfect city for a modern Black Southern Belle looking for big city fun with small town charm.  This past  December me and my husband took a few days to explore everything that Charlotte has to offer. Here are a few of our favorite highlights from the trip.

Where We Stayed:

Le Mèridien Charlotte: From a rooftop night with hot cocoa courtesy of City Lights Rooftop Bar to a city view room decked out in houndstooth,  Le Mèridien Charlotte did not dissapoint. We stayed there two nights and can’t wait to get back soon. They have mastered the mix of southern hospiatlity with modern amenities and style. Not to mention the illy espresso machine in our room added the perfect caffeine boost we needed for the day to take advantage of all the city had to offer.  Learn more about  Le Mèridien Charlotte here

Where We Ate:

The Asbury : I am a sucker for a great biscuit and oysters. Being the lowcountry girl that I am some may even call me an oyster snob. Well, The Asbury, lived up to my high standards and my husband, who is even pickier than me. We loved them enough, we stopped by this place twice during the weekend and had to have the oysters. This downtown restaurant is a blast from the past in a sea of high rises. The staff would stop at nothing to keep us and I still can’t fit my pants after my hearty brunch. If you are looking for upscale southern cuisine, The Asbury is a must see stop on a tour of Charlotte. Click here to learn more.

City Smoke: Me and barbecue have  love affair that lasts the test of time, like Dwayne and Whitley Gilbert. No matter how much I say I am on a diet, it always reels me and City Smoke has made this love affair that much more intense. I loved the lamb and my husband can’t say enough about the birkset. Make sure to stop by when you are in Charlotte and read about it here.

What We Did:

Levine Museum of the New South: If anyone knows, they know I love a good musuem, when I am not antiquing or watching documentary, I am trying to find a museum or a historic tour. The Levine Museum of the New South is one of my favorite museums ever. From their exhibits highlighting Historically Black Colleges to Southern Food, there was something fro everyone. Not to mention me and my husband were on the tour with the cutest group of retirees ever. I think we adopted a few new grandparents and they even offered to let us ride on their tour bus. From an exhibit on Belk to the history of southern lunch snacks, this museum will have you leaving more informed about the diversity of Southern culture and also wanting more food :). Check out their latest exhibits here.

Funny Bus Comedy City Tour: What could possibly go wrong when you mix wine, a stand up comedian and a trolley ride through the city? Nothing and everything. The wine was the perfect addition for a chilly December day in Charlotte and I loved it. My favorite think abou this tour was getting to see some of the historic buildings and the unique piedmont architecture that Charlotte has to offer. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good skyline but a craftsman home will always steal my heart. This tour allows you to bring your own bottle and even had a brewery pit stop for the ladies and gentlemen looking for the lastest in NC beer. Book them for your next getaway and read more here.

We made a few other pit stops on our trip including cupcakes in a hidden gems downtown with the help of this walking tour. If you are looking for a weekend getaway to take with your Black Southern Beau or just a solo trip to relax from your busy life, make sure to add Charlotte to your list. I will be back soon and can’t wait share part two and all the fun! Thanks to Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority for helping me enjoy all that Charlotte has to offer!
