History of Gumbo

Many can agree that Gumbo is a dish that is known more in the creole culture, however, this dish dates back to West Africa; which is where many of our cajun, creole and Southern dishes originate. In West Africa, the word gumbo comes from the work “ki ngombo,” which is what we would know to or referred to as okra. Originally gumbo was made with okra and can still be found with okra and other ingredients as well. From seafood to sausage and tomatoes or peppers, Gumbo is a mixture of a little bit of this and a whole lot of that and turns into something amazing. This roux style soup texture is awesome when paired with white rice and is ideal for serving for large families and friends gatherings.

We know that Gumbo is one of your favorite meals and wanted to provide each of you with some quick mixes that can make your Gumbo process quicker and tastier.
