Holiday Heritage Celebrations: Virginia Mom Preserves Family Traditions during COVID-19

Holiday Heritage Celebrations: Virginia Mom Preserves Family Traditions during COVID-19

Have you been wanting to plan an event but Covid-19 is putting a hindrance in your plans?  Some may say yes and many will think of an event where they maybe didn’t attend due to the lack of Covid precautions. However, event planner and designer Jerrica B. Dixon understands the importance of planning safe events during our current pandemic.

Ms. Dixon has always given her children, six year old Jeree and seven year old Dallas, uniquely themed birthday parties and this year she wanted to ensure much didn’t change. Despite the pandemic that has altered the way we celebrate and enjoy spending time with family members, Ms. Dixon made it her focus and priority to get close ones together to celebrate her daughter’s 6th birthday while following Covid carefulness. With a classic Christmas story, the Nutcracker, as the theme of the party, Jeree and her family and friends celebrated this new age in growth and has a few tips for you to take into consideration to plan your next event.

Below are four few tips that owner, chief designer, and printer of Elegant Embellishments, Jerrica Dixon suggests for other Southern Belles or Southern Beaus to help keep your loved ones safe.

  1. Be creative!

Many would say being creative is ideal for planning any function, but is a key factor when planning during our current situation. Dixon says “you are able to still carry out your original vision/theme but in a whole new socially distanced way.” Think outside the box and think ahead. Be prepared for the size of the party and create an event that allows for distance. Overall, let your creativity run wild.

  1. Experience Parade?

Have you ever thought about having a miniature parade to celebrate and show people you care from afar? Well Dixon suggests planning an “experience parade” for your next birthday party or honoring ceremony and have fun with balloon garlands, backdrops, and packaged treat displays. Dress the part and encourage your guest to do the same.  Just because your guests will be “driving-by” they can still have an amazing time!

  1. Party Favors

What are a few items we always need to have at our functions or when going out during Covid?  Dixon says that hand sanitizer and masks are perfect takeaways and necessities that we all can use. Try giving the favors out as individuals arrive to function to reinforce your safety stance and ensure individuals are prepared to enjoy themselves while staying protected.

  1. Sharing is Caring

As a Southern Belle, Ms. Dixon understands all about special recipes and suggests hostesses to consider sharing their special recipes with their extended family and friends. By sharing these recipes it allows family members to participate in the event virtually and still partake in the famous mac & cheese or sweet red velvet cake dessert that they always look forward to every event.

Just like six year old Jeree, we all still want to celebrate our accomplishments, birthdays, promotions and what better way to do so then following these suggested event planning tips. Even though much has changed, everything doesn’t have to. Keep tradition alive and protect yourself and family and friends.

Enjoy what you saw from Jeree’s 6th Birthday Extravaganza? Below are the vendors that you will need to create an event just as great.
