What is your favorite room in your home?
My living room. Itas my favorite room because it was the first room that I feel really showcased the style that I was going for in my home. Its full of so many 2nd hand and thrifted pieces. Itas really a special room.
For the holidays, what are some of your favorite decor pieces to incorporate?A
I donat do much seasonal or holiday decorating, but I like to add a Christmas tree for my son because it makes him really happy.
How would you describe your home decor style?
Casually modern and classic
What is your favorite piece of art in your home and why?
AThe large abstract piece in my dining room painted by my sister Dana Todd Pope who is an artist in Chicago. Itas really textured and bold. You notice it as soon as you walk into the house.
Did your mother inspire any of the pieces in your home?
My mother inspires me all through my home. She inspires me to work hard and create a beautiful home for my family.
What is your motto when it comes to decorating your home?
Truly do what works for you and your family. Not what you think others would want to see.
Did you do any DIY projects in your home?A
AMost of the projects in my home are DIY; the grid style wall in the living room and my bedroom, Amy living room coffee table I built myself, my kitchen mostly (painted the cabinets, installed the backsplash, and DIYaed the floating shelves), my dining room table and green cabinet. My office desk, chair and file cabinets were updated with paint. My guest bathroom makeover where I laid the floors myself. Iam sure I am forgetting something
What are some uniquely southern items in your home?
My white pitchers in the kitchen. They remind me so much of sitting on the porch drinking lemonade and sweet tea with friends. I donat remember seeing them so much in Chicago.
How does living in the south affect your home decor style?
I always want people to feel welcome.
What are some of your motheras home decor traits or styles that you inherited?
My love of original art. I have several original art pieces in my home and original art is just my preference. Even if it comes from thrift stores.
What is your fondest memory or home decor shopping with your husband?
Fondest? We donat always agree so he kind of just lets me do my thinga?? But the proudest one to date is our fireplace makeover. It was the first project that we ever tackled in our home together.
In your kitchen, what piece of decor is the most functional and stylish and why?
My DIY floating wood shelves. They are both functional, because it provides storage, and pretty because the wood tones are pretty and allow me to display my white pitchers.
