What is your favorite room in your home? The family room is my favorite as it serves as a gathering place at the beginning and end of each day.

For the holidays, what are some of your favorite decor pieces to incorporate? AI love using trunks and baskets. They are functional for storage but during the holidays I fill them with gifts, ornaments, and decorative towels. I place them in and around the foyer, fireplace, and other places where family and friends will gather.

How would you describe your home decor style? A fusion of our southern roots and things we love from our European tours of duty with the military. The colors, fabrics, and textures work well together and say come in and sit a spell. True Southern Hospitality. AIam drawn to dAcor elements and furnishings from the home I grew up in. I want each room and the house to fill lived in and I love quilts, crochet doilies and placemats The color palette is more earth tones with pops of green, orange, and copper. Of Acourse Iave managed to work in my favorite colors Purple and lavender.

What is your favorite piece of art in your home and why? AThe large Iris Flower Photo that hangs over the entry door in the Foyer. The Iris is in memory of my mother and also the logo flower for my Wedding and Event Planning Business.

Did your mother inspire any of the pieces in your home? Yes, my custom trunk. AI grew up in a home filled with Cedar Trunks and Chests. The Chests at the foot of the bed held handmade quilts and linens. Fondest memory is pulling out the quilts in the winter and placing them on the foot of each bed or covering up with them on the couch.

What is your motto when it comes to decorating your home? Decorate with the things that you love and that will take you on a trip down memory lane. Have a statement piece of furniture that reflects your personality. I also like that it doesnat have to match anything else.

Did you do any DIY projects in your home? If so, what did you do? Not DIY, but more repurposing. I salvaged a wood photo frame from our home house in Montgomery, Alabama before it was torn down. I cleaned Aup, placed a new glass in it and wrote my 2018 vision on it. Before that I would insert different photos.

What are some uniquely southern items in your home? Crochet doilies and placemats. I use them on nightstands, tables, and even chair backs to add interest to a sometimes-boring piece of furniture. AMy mother believed you should never sit drinking glasses, lamps, or flower vases on your good wood furniture.

How does living in the south affect your home decor style? My style Is stylish comfort they says, a?come on it and sit a whilea? that starts on the front porch and ends on the back porch. I have changed in that I donat want things to only be used for special guests or a?companya? on Sundayas or Holidays. Back to style, comfort, Alived in .

Do you utilize local furniture brands? Not necessarily local brands but the unique pieces found at my favorite store: Tuesday Morning and Kirklandas. AWe do visit Furnitureland South in High Point for unique finds as well.

Do you have any family heirlooms? If so, what and tell us more about them? AMy family heirlooms are quilts made by my mother as well as the photo of Jesus which hung in our Afamilyas Dining Room.

What are some of your motheras home decor traits or styles that you inherited? Windows with sheer curtains or blinds that let in natural light. Front porch with comfortable chairs, APillows, seasonal wreaths, and welcome mats. When the military moves us to a new home the first thing we set out is a wreath and welcome mat.

What is your fondest memory or home decor shopping with your husband? Choosing the furniture that now sits in our family room. It was our 1st time purchasing pieces that gravitated from the browns and beiges and going to more bolder colors and patterns (hence the deep red chairs and my Giraffe pattern chair. We also had the consultant come into the home to assist with placement. We even moved away from keeping furniture against the wall and creating a REAL sitting area for conversation.

In your kitchen, what piece of decor is the most functional and stylish and why? Hands down our 2 barrel counter stools. We love them for coffee together in the morning, sitting while the other prepares dinner, or sorting through the dayas paperwork. Itas the most popular seating area for our guests.
