In honor of Black History Month, the Beck&Call Hospitality team organized a black-owned wine tasting. Each member chose a wine and course pairing to share. All wines were purchased from. OST Liquor, a black-owned liquor store in Houston.
For our appetizer, the House of Brown Chardonnay was paired with a shrimp salad topped with crispy cornbread croutons. Brown Estate Vineyards is the first and only Black-owned estate winery in Nappa Valley. The Chardonnay has flavors of guava, gooseberry, lemon verbena, and tropical fruit. This wine pairs best with light appetizers and seafood.
The main entrée, Papadeaux’s Pasta Mardi Gras, was paired with Other People’s Pinot. This wine is from Maison Noir Wines in McMinnville, Oregon. André Hueston Mack founded the winery in 2007 and adds a personal perspective on wine subculture. Other People’s Pino has flavors of cherry, ginger, wood, and spice and goes wonderfully with cheese and seafood.
For the final course, dessert, ErmaRose Winery’s Strawberry wine was paired with a decadent chocolate brownie topped with strawberries and ice cream. This sweet Strawberry wine is made with fresh strawberries and pairs well with any rich dessert.
