I love the month of February with Valentine’s Day, my anniversary and Mardi Gras. This year I decided to combine all of these elements and have a romantic weekend getaway with a Mardi Gras inspired brunch. One of my favorite ways to vacation is to explore
How to Host a Romantic and Family Friendly Mardi Gras Inspired Vacation
Set the Table
If you are in a hotel, you can use the coffee table, side board or even desk to recreate a romantic tablescape. I adore this mid-century modern piece with gold accents. You can use Mardi Gras beads as a simple napkin ring holder for your table.
Time for Drinks
Any great meal requires drinks. We had a mix of chocolate flavored brew and rum to start the celebrations for this Mardi Gras meal. They also pair perfectly with all the wonderful carbs. You can’t get enough carbs in the South.
Pop Some Champagne
Champagne is always a great way to celebrate the love you have for someone and also Mardi Gras. You can find a local champagne producer for a unique travel experience during your Mardi Gras celebration.
Food is a Must
Growing up in the South, good food is a requirement, especially food full of carbs and seafood. Mardi Gras season is the perfect excuse to indulge in this dynamic duo. For this dinner, we had some classic Bayou and Lowcountry staples. From beignets to crab cakes benedict and gouda grits, this meal is worth all of the calories just for its smell alone.
Sweets for Your Sweet
You cannot celebrate Mardi Gras without beignets and that includes having powdered sugar all over them. Let’s just say Jackson is 9 months and I might have eaten 9 beignets and there may be a trail of powdered sugar over the beautiful woven carpet of our hotel room. Happily, it’s easy to clean up!
Make it a Family Affair
As new parents, it is hard to have a romantic weekend with just the two of us so we don’t mind making it a family affair. The beautiful carpet at this historic hotel is a great place to play with your baby for the weekend. It is soft and baby friendly not to mention it is also a noise reducer as our active 9 month old is quite noisy when he doesn’t get attention! Carpet is a great way to mask his playful banter and ensure the other hotel guests get some sleep.

• Beauty and style – carpet provides a canvas for any room design. I adored the detailing of the woven carpet in this hotel. Love the historic, midcentury style of this room paired with classic carpet.
• Warmth and comfort – carpet keeps people/families cozy. Who doesn’t love snuggles with a baby on plush carpet?
• Improved air quality – studies show that carpet actually captures allergens, improving indoor air quality. This is important for someone like me when traveling because my allergies are terrible.
• Noise reduction – carpet helps keep a noisy room a little less noisy and blocks some of the noise of a busy toddler.
• Safety – carpet helps reduce slips and falls and minimizes injuries. As a clumsy person, I have slipped myself a few times so carpet and rugs are a must. Not to mention carpet is the perfect playground for my active baby.
Carpet can be a great choice at home or in commercial settings. The Carpet and Rug Institute website offers more information about the beauty of carpet, as well as tips for choosing carpet and carpet maintenance.
