How To Host A Soul Food Dinner Party For Your Book Club
Set The Menu: Keep it Classic
Lima Beans: You can add meat or cook them as they are, but I definitely suggest getting them fresh or fresh frozen from a local farmer’s market or veggie stand.
White Rice: I am from the Lowcountry and rice is a must with every dish, so much so that there is a tradition of even having a specific pot to cook rice in.
Pan-Fried Pork Chops: My grandfather was a hog farmer and I have fond memories of feeding the hogs when I was a kid.
Pick the Linens: Keep It Fun
I chose to mix indigo and houndstooth for this soul food dinner party. Houndstooth is a classic southern print and I love the way it balances with indigo, which is an integral part of Gullah heritage.
Mix and Match Dishware
I love collecting dishware and believe it is meant to be used, not just sitting in a cabinet. For this dinner party, I chose a mix of classic chinoiserie and modern indigo dinner plates.
Add Party Favors
Books are the perfect party favor a soul food dinner party. From Black women authors to books on black art, they are a perfect addition to a dinner party or book club.
