Mississippi Writers Trail  Honors African American Poet, Margaret Walker
Margaret Walker was an American poet and writer. She was part of the African-American literary movement in Chicago, known as the Chicago Black Renaissance. Her notable works include the award-winning poem “For My People” and the novel Jubilee, set in the South during the American Civil War.

On the campus of Jackson State University at Ayer Hall, the Mississippi Writers Trail unveiled its latest part of the trail, Margaret Walker Alexander Literary Trail Marker. Check out footage from the event feature on Visit Jackson, MS Facebook page below.

The Mississippi Writers Trail is an initiative of the Mississippi Arts Commission, in partnership with the Community Foundation for Mississippi, Mississippi Book Festival, Mississippi Humanities Council, Mississippi Department of Archives and History, Mississippi Library Commission and Visit Mississippi.
