It is the coming of age story. #Black Southern Belle is a daddy’s girl and gets everything she wants. She goes to college and still goes out to eat and shops her life away, then graduation comes and she gets her dream non profit, teaching, political, fashion, pr, basically any job that pays her just enough to live.
In all of this excitement, her parentals are just as excited, they are finally about to end their gravy train and now the Black Southern Belle has to fend on her own. No more Kate Spade splurges. No more gel manicures. No more weekly $60 press and curls.
Just because your parents have cut you off or you didn’t decide to pursue a career just for money doesn’t mean you still can’t live the life of a Black Southern Belle, it just means you have to adjust with the quickness.
Here are some times to help you keep your lifestyle while losing your parental sponsors:
Sign up for Sample Sale Emails: Get on it asap. Sample sales will save your life and your wardrobe. These are especially key for homecoming season when you want to impress that old boo or have prophtyes who are quick to judge.
Host Brunch/Wine Night at Home: BSBs love brunch and brunch loves BSBs but not our budget. What better way to improve your southern hosting skills and stay on budget than to host brunch or wine night at your own home. Make it a potluck or BYOB and you have the makings of a good time with your girls and maybe even some leftovers for tomorrow.
Start DIY like your Life Depended on it: You name it, DIY can make it possible. DIY is especially key when it comes to decorating your home, stationery and even giving gifts(especially for those 10 weddings you are in or invited to attend). Nothing says I care about you love you like a handmade gift.
Repurpose Your Outfits: You know you already 15 Kate Spade and Anthropologie dresses in your closet. Find a way to make those things look like new. Maybe add a cute new belt or a fun blazer but enjoy the clothes you have until you more money to get the clothes you want.
Buy a Gel Nail Kit and Host a Nail Party: My favorite splurge on earth are gel nails, they are like makeover for my hands. But at 50-100 for a mani/pedi they are not budget friendly. To save money, buy your own gel nail kit, invite your favorite #Black Southern Belles over and have some champagne while doing your nails like. It is like your old school slumber party days but much better.
The sting of losing your access to your parent’s bank account may be hard but you can survive. You have all the tools and style you need to remain true to your Black Southern Belle standards.
