What is your favorite room in your home?
My living room is my favorite room in my apartment, because it’s comfy, bright, and has a lot of color. I also have a lot of my favorite pieces in my living room, like my framed leopard art, framed afro girl, cow art, and black and white rug.
For the holidays, what are some of your favorite decor pieces to incorporate?
My favorite decorative pieces for the holidays are candles, a large Christmas tree, and my leopard ornaments.
How would you describe your home decor style?
My style is definitely eclectic. I only like to use items that I love (or that my clients love). I tend to like a comfy look with glam accents. I love a home to look collected.
What do you love about New Orleans homes?
I love the way New Orleans does color! So, my favorite homes in the city are ones that are colorful with great art collections. Homes in New Orleans have a collected look, which is a style that I really, really love.
What piece of furniture do you love in your office?
My office is made mostly of a really cool storage system (usually seen in closets and pantries) and a worktable that I painted black. What I love most about my office is the drawers of my storage system. They stylishly hide my pens, markers, catalogs, and notebooks.
What is your favorite piece of art in your home and why?
My favorite piece of art is a framed illustration of a zebra with leopard print matting. I got it from a flea market in the city and can’t imagine ever parting with.
Did your mother inspire any of the pieces in your home?
My mom and I usually NEVER agree on anything related to decor. But, while shopping one day, she saw my large cow art at the same time as I did and said, “This is so you”! It was a really bold choice, and I probably wouldn’t have purchased it if she didn’t motivate me. I’m so glad she did, because I’m in love with it.
What is your motto when it comes to decorating your home?
In order to love your home, choose to only fill it with items that you love.
Did you do any DIY projects in your home?
I upholstered the two chairs in my living room. I purchased them from Target upholstered in a blue cotton fabric and knew I wanted to give them a new look with a vinyl fabric.
What did you love about decorating your office?
What I loved most about decorating my office is adding in the decorative accents. My office is pretty industrial, using a storage system with exposed baskets and brackets, so it was important to me to bring in something pretty. I really love my blue tray with my office supplies and my gallery wall.
What are some must have items for your home office?
For me, magazine files are a must have, because I have a lot of notebooks, paperwork, and loose items that I use each day. I use the magazine files to corral my stuff so I’ll always know where to find it.
What routines do you have for developing a design for a room?
When working with clients, I get to know them. I ask them lots and lots of questions to get a sense of their style and personality. Then, I like to show them lots of different art and spaces to get a sense of how they like to use color and what inspires them. From there, I’m able to choose a great color scheme and help them understand their design style.
