If anyone knows me, they know I love finding a great new restaurant. Although I am from the Lowcountry, I have only been back in the area for 4 years so every week, I spend a few days exploring new restaurants with my family. Thankfully my husband and Jackson indulge me, no matter how far we have to go including island hopping and dirt road explorations.
On a recent trip to Beaufort, SC to scout for items for a photo shoot, we decided to go a little further and head to St. Helena Island. I had passed this home with a small commercial building in front of it no less than 100 times and always planned to stop in but never did. So I finally had a taste for BBQ and shrimp and the Island Fast Food Grill fit the bill.
Nestled in front of family property, the fast food restaurant (which is deceiving because the BBQ is smoked for hours) sits right on the side of the road with the view of the marshland and Spanish moss across the road.
You can choose to order your food inside the building or at the side door on the outside but the real charm is in the outdoor eating area which reminded me of late nights at my family reunions with my family and is a perfect way to experience the fresh food served.
My husband ordered the pull pork sandwich and it was delicious. Lots of fattiness and bold flavor and I ordered the fried shrimp which was cooked perfectly, both sweet, fresh and crunchy.
This restaurant is as Lowcountry as it gets. Lots of history, casual elegance and a great view and I am glad I stopped by. They are know for great burgers, racks of ribs and good old fashioned yard bird.
If you are in the Beaufort, SC or Hilton Head area, be sure to take the scenic route and explore Island Fast Food Grill.
