How did you meet?
Marvin and I worked in the Biotechnology field, and met while working at a lab.
How long did you date?
3 years
How did he propose?
We were both living in Mobile when Thanksgiving holiday came around. Marvin told me that he had to work, and would not be able to go home to visit our families with me. On Thanksgiving, I went to visit my family. Marvin had been texting me throughout the day. The last text I got said: “Do you know what I’m thankful for?” I typed: “What?” Then there was a knock at the door. I opened it, and it was him! He dropped down on his knee and proposed in front of my family!
When did you know he was the one?
On several occasions, The Holy Spirit told me that he was a good mate for me. That’s the thing about God, he can only lead you a certain way, but it’s up to us to choose. I ultimately loved how he made me a priority and sacrificed a lot to support me.
What is the cutest thing he has done for you without you asking?
I had completed the first two years of medical school, and my family came to my white coat ceremony. I had been dropping hints about wanting a bracelet for about a year. After the ceremony, we all went out to eat. During dinner, Marvin presented me with a Pandora bracelet. I found out that he contacted my family members to let them know he was buying it, and asked them if they would buy a charm that represented what I meant to them. They all presented me with their charms during the dinner. That moment meant the world to me.
What is something you love about him that has completely changed your life?
Marvin has an enormous amount of faith and optimism. It doesn’t matter what happens in life, he still remains positive. I’m more of a worrier, so he balances me out.
What part of wedding planning made you crazy?
The guest list…. Enough said!
What part of wedding planning could you not live without?
My mother! The wedding was in Birmingham, and I live in Mobile. She was my eyes, ears, hands, etc.
What was your first thought the day after your engagement?
Omg! I’m going to be someone’s wife!
What was your favorite part about the ceremony?
When we exchanged our vows. I felt that it was so sweet and emotional.
What was your favorite part about the wedding?
The first dance. We had so much fun!
Did you do any DIY? If so, what?
Yes! I use DIY loosely because my mom and her friend Renee did everything. They made the arrangements for the tables at the reception, the wishing well, and the cake pop stands.
