Katrice and Keith are a Virginia bred couple who have moved to Florida and took advantage of their beauty of their new home state for their traditional southern wedding. This beautiful couple had a wedding that is fit for a vintage movie. From the ball gown to traditional decor, we can’t get enough of this wedding. How did you meet?
I was still in undergrad and was out at a bar with friends. Keith hopped the fence to get into the bar as he was in town for the football game earlier that day. Once he got upstairs, our mutual friend, Jessica introduced us. We exchanged numbers and the rest is history!
How long did you date?
3 ½ years
How did he propose?
I got home from work (not expecting him to be home), and there was a note on the door with a rose that said “Knock, then come in.” I opened the door, followed the notes telling me to come upstairs. As I was walking upstairs there were roses on each step, and then I heard John Legend “All of Me” come on. As I reached the top step, I saw Keith in a tux, roses everywhere, and will you marry me in huge letters printed out. He got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I said yes and then he surprised me with a trip to New York to celebrate!
When did you know he was the one?
I honestly knew he was the one on our first date. He was so different from every other guy. He was so genuine, and his smile was electric. It was the way he looked at me, and by his smile I could tell he was so happy to be with me. I knew I wanted that feeling forever.
What is the cutest thing he has done for you without you asking?
Back in the day after we first started dating, he would go get me White Chocolate Mochas from Starbucks while I was still asleep and I would wake up to them right next to me. So cute.
What is something you love about him that has completely changed your life?
I love that he doesn’t ever have a bad thing to say about anyone. That is rare. It is also a contagious character trait. It makes me look at people differently and I can see that change in myself happening everyday.
What part of wedding planning made you crazy?
Definitely dealing with other people’s opinions, feelings and emotions about OUR big day! It was exhausting.
What part of wedding planning could you not live without?
My meetings with our planner, Rebekkah. They kept me from freaking out.
What was your first thought the day after your engagement?
I can’t believe this is really my life.
What was your favorite part about the ceremony?
Saying our vows that we wrote.
What was your favorite part about the wedding?
Walking into the ballroom and being announced as husband and wife for the first time. Seeing all of our friends and family so happy for us was so fun!
Did you do any DIY? If so, what?
I painted some of the decor for our sweetheart table. They were wooden letters. Two K’s and an ampersand.
What were your wedding colors?
I didn’t have colors necessarily, but most of our decor was Gold.
What was your wedding theme?
Elegant, simple, classy
What did you love about being a southern bride?
I loved how I got to choose every single detail. I feel like as a Southern bride, I definitely knew what I wanted and also what I absolutely did not want.
What makes a Florida wedding special to you?
Having a Florida wedding was special because it was something I never dreamed of. I always assumed I would get married in Virginia, which is my home state. It was different, but a good kind of different.
What was your favorite food on the menu?
The filet.
What did you stress about that you wish you hadn’t?
Transportation. I kept going back and forth trying to decide if I wanted to rent a special car for our send-off. I ended up deciding no since our venue was so close to the hotel. I didn’t think it was worth it. It was the best decision and in retrospect it was a tiny detail in the grand scheme of the night. It was not a big deal at all.
What is your favorite part about being married to each other?
I think my favorite part is just knowing that I always have someone that is on my team, and knowing that I get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. For Keith, his favorite part about being married is that we are officially a little family now.
What did you learn about each other through the wedding planning process?
Keith learned that I could take on a lot at once. Not only were we planning our wedding, but we had just moved to a new house and a new city, and started new jobs. I had a lot on my plate. I learned that Keith does not like to see me stressed! He was very adamant about taking on things so that I didn’t have to deal with it, or getting someone else to do it.
